Snoop Dogg Gets Swimming Tips from Michael Phelps at Paris Olympics: A Must-Watch Hilarious Encounter

Jul 30, 2024

The rapper, known for hosting a show during the Tokyo Olympics, is back for the 2024 Games in Paris and has already charmed fans.

Snoop Dogg, a lyrical genius and confident swimmer, showcased his skills in an NBC video released on July 29. In the clip, he gets a swim lesson from the legendary Michael Phelps.

"You see me and MP, we go back like the backstroke," Snoop says about the 23-time gold medalist before asking for tips on swimming faster.

"Wingspan, lung power," Phelps responds.

"You just described me!" Snoop laughs. "I definitely have great lung power."

After an exhausting swim in his hotel pool, Snoop jokes about being in "gold medal condition," while catching his breath.

This video is just the latest in a series of Snoop moments that have entertained Olympic audiences.

Earlier on July 29, Snoop provided energetic analysis of a men’s doubles badminton match between the U.S. and China, which aired on NBC Sports. His rapid-fire commentary during the long volley was shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“This is a great rally here between China and the U.S. right here,” he began, with his words flying faster than the shuttlecock.

“As you see, it don’t stop 'til the casket drop. They rocking and rolling, back and forth,” he continued.

“Give me that, no I need that. Nope, over here, nope, over there, what about over there? Nope. What about there? Nope. Give me that. I need that. That, too. Sit down. Get down. Wait a minute. Hold it, way up in the sky. Now down. Back up. Over there. Now over here. Get out the way. Move. I told you, we need that.”

Fans loved the joy the rapper brought, with one commenting, "Snoop has literally become an American treasure!"

Snoop has been spotted cheering on Team USA throughout the events, always dressed in American flag apparel or the faces of competing Olympians.

He even watched tennis rivals Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal play with fellow Long Beach native and tennis icon Billie Jean King.

Snoop also co-hosted the Paris opening ceremony with Savannah Guthrie, NBC's Mike Tirico, singer Kelly Clarkson, and former NFL player Peyton Manning.

He freestyled during the ceremony, chatted with Simone Biles' family, and was seen dancing ahead of the event.

Snoop also had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch ahead of the ceremony.

Following an interview with Olympian Noah Lyles on the Team USA boat, Tirico tossed to Snoop.

“You know Noah (Lyles) stays smooth as a broom, dipped and whipped, smooth as a booty, so you know he’s gonna be fresh to death, ya dig?” Snoop said.

When asked about the rain, the Long Beach native replied:

“I’m chillin like a villain, raindrops falling on my head — but we still playin' to win, baby.”

Expect to see a lot of Snoop during the Olympics as he explores the city and meets athletes aiming for glory.

Snoop Dogg and the Olympics might seem like an odd pairing, but he believes it's a perfect match.

“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness,” he said in a press release.

“We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked. Let’s elevate, celebrate, and make these games unforgettable, smoke the competition, and may the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, ya dig?”

This isn’t Snoop’s first time at the Olympics. He reported during the 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo on the Peacock show “Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg.”

“Snoop is already an Olympic gold medal commentator, generating tens of millions of views for his highlights commentary on Peacock during the Tokyo Olympics,” said Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production.

“That performance alone has earned Snoop a job as our Special Correspondent in Paris. We don’t know what the heck is going to happen every day, but we know he will add his unique perspective to our re-imagined Olympic primetime show.”

Coverage of the Summer Olympics runs from July 26 to August 11 on NBC, Peacock, USA Network, GOLF Channel, CNBC, E!, and Universo.
