Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are ending their marriage after two years together.
Court documents obtained by HOROSCOPESNEWS.com reveal that Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20 at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to a source close to Lopez, the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement. The source also confirmed to NBC News that Lopez proceeded with the filing without legal representation.
The date of the filing, August 20, is notably significant as it marks the anniversary of their second wedding, which took place in Georgia.
Representatives for Lopez and Affleck did not immediately respond to requests for comment from HOROSCOPESNEWS.com.
Speculation about their split had been growing, particularly as the couple had been seen together less frequently. The rumors intensified when Lopez canceled her summer tour to spend time with her loved ones.
On May 31, Lopez and Live Nation announced the cancellation of her “This Is Me... Live” tour, which was scheduled to begin in Orlando, Florida, less than a month later.
Live Nation stated that Lopez was “taking time off to be with her children, family, and close friends.”
In a message to her fans via her newsletter, Lopez expressed her heartbreak over the decision.
“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to disappoint you. Please know I wouldn’t make this choice unless it was absolutely necessary. I promise to make it up to you, and we will all be together again,” she assured her fans, signing off with, “Until next time...”
Affleck's absence from Lopez's 55th "Bridgerton"-themed birthday party in July further fueled the rumors.
The couple has faced public scrutiny over their relationship before.
Lopez and Affleck first met and got engaged in 2002 but called it off in 2004. Affleck later married actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children. They separated in 2015 after ten years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 2018.
Lopez married Marc Anthony in 2004, welcoming twins in 2008. They divorced in 2014. She was also previously married to actor Ojani Noa and dancer Cris Judd and was engaged to former MLB star Alex Rodriguez.
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021, the same year Lopez and Rodriguez announced the end of their engagement.
Their reunion was celebrated by fans and family alike. During a 2023 appearance on HOROSCOPESNEWS, Lopez’s mother, Guadalupe Rodríguez, shared that she always believed her daughter and Affleck were destined to be together.
“I knew you would get back together because I prayed for 20 years,” Rodríguez told Lopez during the interview.
In 2022, Lopez announced their engagement in her newsletter, On the JLo. The couple wed in a small Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022.
“We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” she wrote in her newsletter.
A month later, they celebrated with a lavish wedding in Georgia, where Lopez donned three different Ralph Lauren dresses throughout the event.
Reflecting on the occasion in her newsletter, Lopez shared, “Ben and I laughed the night before about getting married again at our age. We’ve both been married before, and we’re not exactly kids anymore, but somehow this feels like the perfect time.”
