In a surprising moment at Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, fans at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome booed pop superstar Taylor Swift when her image flashed on the giant screen. While the scene quickly went viral, The View star and former Donald Trump associate Alyssa Farah Griffin offered a different perspective, challenging any notion that the boos signified a larger anti-Swift sentiment.
Swift’s Super Bowl Surprise
Swift, who has been dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, attended the game alongside rapper Ice Spice, only to be met with unexpected boos from the crowd. A comical, wide-eyed reaction from Swift captured the moment, sending social media into a frenzy. Despite the video quickly turning into a meme, Griffin suggested that the incident was simply Eagles fans taking aim at a rival player’s partner, rather than a reflection of wider public disdain.
“I’m going to do some pushback here. She got booed because half of the crowd are Eagles fans, and [she’s] dating one of the star players,” Griffin said on The View’s Behind the Table podcast.
Griffin reminded listeners that Swift recently packed the same stadium for three sold-out shows on her Eras Tour, emphasizing the singer’s enduring popularity. She also praised Swift for her ability to draw new, younger audiences—particularly girls—into the sport.
“There’s not a shortage of people who absolutely love Taylor Swift,” Griffin continued. “While I was watching with neighbors, everyone had their kids running around. Seeing young girls under 10 watching, like, ‘Are they going to show Taylor?’ I think it’s a cool way to introduce girls to the sport who maybe didn’t grow up watching football.”
Trump’s Popularity “Most Popular He’s Ever Been”
Griffin also weighed in on Donald Trump’s presence at the Super Bowl. Footage had circulated online showing fans cheering Trump in the stadium—the same place Swift received boos—which led the former White House staffer to remark on his current favorability.
“I wasn’t going to say it on the show today because I didn’t feel like choosing violence on a Monday; Trump’s the most popular he’s ever been,” Griffin said.
Despite acknowledging the former president’s strong support base, Griffin pointed out that many still revere him as an American president, even if they did not vote for him. She added that the Super Bowl, as a celebration of American culture, tends to spark a wide array of reactions, both positive and negative, toward public figures.
Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show Sparks Debate
This year’s Super Bowl halftime performance by Kendrick Lamar ignited its own controversy. With the Chiefs eventually losing to the Eagles 40-22, Lamar’s show touched on themes surrounding race in America—a move that some conservative viewers took issue with.
The View cohost Ana Navarro weighed in with a tongue-in-cheek jab at Trump’s track record of executive orders.
“You know I don’t do sports, you know I don’t do football. But, listen, I think today Donald Trump is going to sign an executive order banning Black people from halftime,” she quipped during Monday’s episode, alluding to the flurry of executive orders the former president has signed since taking office.
