Carlos Alcaraz effortlessly defeated Novak Djokovic on Sunday, securing his second consecutive Wimbledon title against the men's all-time leader in Grand Slam victories.
Alcaraz clinched the win in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6, marking his fourth Grand Slam title overall.
The 21-year-old Alcaraz reached the final after a 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 semifinal victory over Daniil Medvedev on Friday. In contrast, Djokovic had a slightly easier path, defeating Lorenzo Musetti, 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
The final was attended by Kate, the Princess of Wales, making a rare public appearance following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. She was accompanied by her daughter, Charlotte, 9, and her sister, Pippa Middleton Matthews.
Kate descended to center court to present a smiling Alcaraz with his trophy.
Djokovic, with 24 Grand Slam singles titles, is now 37 years old, making future title opportunities increasingly challenging.
Just over a month ago, Djokovic underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee, an injury sustained during the French Open.
Alcaraz claimed his first Slam title at the 2022 U.S. Open as a teenager, and no man has amassed more Slam titles before turning 22.
There is a possibility that Alcaraz and Djokovic could face each other again in a few weeks on another grand stage, offering French tennis fans the dream matchup they missed at Roland Garros.
Both players are confirmed participants in the upcoming Olympics. Djokovic won a bronze medal in Beijing in 2008, while this will be Alcaraz's first Olympic appearance.
